Anthony Joshua has announced a partnership with the UK’s largest CBD company

As the upheaval of the past year in sports – delayed Olympics, curtailed domestic football seasons and so on – has put unusually tough or unplanned strains on athletes’ bodies, it follows that many would be looking for new ways to help their recovery. As such, it’s a smart time to invest in CBD products – as Anthony Joshua has announced he’s doing today.

The British two-time world heavyweight champion has become a shareholder in Love Hemp, a CBD company that supplies hemp products to amateur and professional sportspeople and will also become an ambassador for the brand, eventually releasing his own licensed range of products for athletes. Love Hemp has experience in the world of fighting already: the company is currently the official CBD partner of the UFC and has an ongoing partnership with Nigerian-American fighter Kamaru Usman.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is an active ingredient in marijuana and is extracted from hemp plants, which are related to the marijuana plant itself, but the substance is neither intoxicating nor addictive. It’s commonly used to treat symptoms of epilepsy, though research into its efficacy in treating other conditions is still broadly ongoing. Early studies suggest that CBD might be helpful in lessening insomnia or anxiety, for example.
